Trails Update: July 21, 2023
Stingers!
We (Jake specifically) found our first Ground Wasp nest of the season while widening Flashback to an Adaptive-MTB Blue Standard. Jake managed to get away with a single sting. Loosely related: check out the stinger in my tire (see photo). We’re getting into that time of the year where wasp colonies are big enough to become “concerning”. They get aggressive at any disturbance near the nest. Hopefully, the local bears find them before we do… Although I totally understand if an angry wasp nest isn’t the bear’s first choice for snacking since berries are now starting to ripen all over the valley.
This week’s rain (YAY!) gave us some momentum for ground work in areas highlighted by last week’s test ride with Whistler Adaptive. Punchy climbs were filled in, jumps widened and berms were upgraded. We also built a bridge over troubled water (black muck!) that ties up finished sections allowing us to finally move the tools away from this mosquito factory. I’d like to once again thank Vision Pacific and their crew for donating the decking for another 5 foot wide bridge. We’re focussing on Flashback 1 in preparation for a volunteer dig MORNING on July 30th - the last day of Crankworx. The event is sponsored by Fox Factory Trail Trust who coincidentally granted WORCA over $26,000 to upgrade Farout 3 and Flashback 1 to an Adaptive-MTB Blue Standard. You need to sign up here to get in on the fun!
See you on the trails!
