Trails Update: July 5, 2024

Rainbow creamsicle is next!

Long weekends equate to short trail crew updates but it feels like we got so much done this week: We pulled the last stump to improve the connection of Flashback 2 and Flashback 3 (TRAIL CHANGES AHEAD!). We dumped the last wheelbarrow of dirt to cap the rock island connecting Flashback 5. We benched the last 15 meters of trail where that pesky “trail closed” sign lay for over a year... And, we put down the “last spike” on the “C” bridge to complete Flashback 4. In this case it was actually the last screw thanks to a supply donation from U2 fasteners. No trail ever feels truly finished and we’ll be returning to tweak things as needed. It’ll take us a while to get all of our stashed gear out of there. Amazing how much stuff you accumulate while “living” in a spot for 5 years! I’ve already figured out where the remaining Van Urban Timber boards will end up: further up the Cheakamus Lake FSR as we continue to upgrade the existing Far Out-Flashback to Adaptive-MTB blue standard.

“When are you gonna put up the signs?”

That’s a task we are saving for when the wildfire risk rating goes to extreme, which could be next week… It would be nice to put up some cool old school style trail signs for each section. I've included a few nice ones from my recent travels in this week’s photos. “FAR OUT!” and “FLASH BACK” are the limits of my graphic design skills… Any real artists up for such a task? A.I. submissions will be rejected!

Keep an eye out for an announcement about an apt celebration (date TBD)...

See you on the trails!
