Trails Update: October 11, 2024

gettin’ er’ done

Last week’s snow tease sure got me riled up! I might not get another ride down LOTS, I can’t remember where my snowboards ended up last season and we still have tools stashed in 5 locations! We’re now getting back to those tools to finish what we had started earlier. You’re probably wondering how we ended up with so many unfinished projects scattered all over the valley… After finishing Flashback, we began to spread the volunteer events to other neighborhoods so there was a lot of bouncing around from medium project to medium project. This left unfinished business when there wasn’t enough work left to justify another large group event. We also dropped what we were doing when the Fire rating jumped up (or down), moving the crew to more “conditions-appropriate” projects. So this week, we rolled the tools out of the Jane lakes zone, building some bridges and armouring roots on our way down.

We also had tools stashed on redesigned Creamsicle Rainbow and Up Shit Creek trails. It was clever of us to invite 30 volunteers to help retrieve them! Chromag sponsored our season-ender Tuesday Dig Night. Serendipitously, the original trail was built by Chromag founder/mastermind Ian Ritz with the help of sea-to-sky famous J to the U. It was a mad rush to finish Creamsicle 2.0 and empty Ben’s sausage/candy/beer supply! We hustled to smooth out the trail, enlarge berms and clean up the area before dark. These fall Tuesday Dig Nights may need to become Sunday Brunch Digs next year… I would like to once again thank everyone who joined us pouring sweat on our shared trail network. We held 16 volunteer dig events this season! Flashback is done! High hopes has re-opened, Creamsicle 2.0 rolls both ways and everyone will get another serving of green jello (eventually…). I look forward to digging with you (and more new friends) next spring!

See you on the trails!
