It was a big week of racing for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.Phat Wednesday presented By KokaneeOn Wednesday we saw 263 Downhillers come out to the 2nd Phat Wednesday presented by Kokanee of the summer.  Tacking Upper and Lower Angry Pirate to World Cup Single Track to Ho Chi Min, kept things technical and a few riders chose their “little bike” as their weapon of choice.PhatWeds3JuneWhistler Bike Park Phat Wednesday - Race 2 - Angry Pirate World Cup to Ho Chi Min Photo Credit - Laurence Crossman-Emms PhotographyIn the open male category Chris Kovarik continued his dominance from week one taking the top spot and fast time of the day at 3:30.51. Both Remy Metailler and Denis Courchesne were able to move up one place this week taking second and third respectively. n the open female category, chains were back on this week and Claire Buchar was able to claim back victory from Leonie Picton. Buchar’s impressive time of 3:50.60 would have placed her in the top 20 in open male. Georgia Astle rounded out the podium in third place in her first race for the series. Shane Gayton, continued his winning streak on the trail bike taking first place in Masters Male with a convincing lead of over 12 seconds. Mathieu Hebert and Paul Stevens had a close battle for 2nd and 3rd with Mathieu just squeezing into second place with a time of 3:48.2 and Stevens ever so close in third, 3:48.51.[button link="http://www.worca.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Results-June-3-v2.pdf" target="blank" color="#28c8e5" text="light"]June 3 Phat Weds Results[/button][spacer size="10"]It was a cool evening due to the recent rain but racers were able to warm up with a kokanee on the GLC Patio for the awards and draw prizes which included a bevy of great prizes thanks to Sram, IXS, Dakine, Go Pro and other Whistler Mountain Bike Park Sponsors.Friday FunduroThen Friday saw our Friday Funduros return for their 2nd race of the season.  A short 3 stage enduro 100% on park trails.  This week we had some racer input on developing the course and it proved to be a success.  Stage one saw riders heading down Ninja Cougar, along After Atlantis over to Lower Angry Pirate.  The 2nd stage was short and sweet down B-Line, Funshine Rolly Drops and into Blueseum as riders saved themselves for the endurance of Stage 3. B-Line, Old Oly Road, Lower Whistler Downhill, B-Line Connector, Ho Chi Min, Heart of Darkness, The Burms and into Skier’s Plaza.This week’s the number of racers almost doubled to 70 racers many of whom are not familiar faces in the bike park race scene.  However, the top spot on podium was held for the 2nd week in a row by Shane Gayton in the Male open with a combined time of 8:59.53, the only racers to break the 9 minute mark.  He was followed closely by Remy Mettailler at 9:02.58 and Trevor Burke at 9:06.01.  The Female Open was a close battle with just over 1 second between first and second.  Georgia Astle at 10:20.43 took the win over Katrina Strand who posted a 10:21.53 with Lula Darquier rounding out the podium at 10:28.77.  The Master Male class was another tough fight for first; however, Adam Dagg was able to come out on top with a 9:21.26 followed by Sol Stuckey 9:29.52 and Michael Watt in 3rd with 9:35.31.FunduroJune5Friday Funduro #2 Male Open Podium, left to right, Remy Metailler, Shane Gayton, Trevor Burke.[button link="http://www.worca.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Funduro-Results-June-5.pdf" target="blank" color="#28c8e5" text="light"]Funduro June 5 Results[/button][spacer size="10"]Once again, the evening was wrapped up on the patio of the GLC with some cold well-earned Kokanees and some awesome swag including some Enduro Specific gear thanks to Sram and IXS.We are at it all again next week with Phat Wednesday on the 10th and Friday Funduro on the 12th.  Courses will be announced at 4:00pm the evening before each race on the big sign at the bottom of the park and on the Phat Wednesday Facebook page.
