Trails Update: July 03, 2020

Short Wet Week

Canada Day certainly provided some well deserved respite from the constant under-predicted rain events this summer. I know, I know: Just last week I bragged about how prepared I am for outdoor work. You can dress for it, but at some point your mind just can’t.

Like when mosquitoes seek shelter under the brim of your hat: they’re as fed up with “June-uary” as we are.

All of the weather sites have been getting it soooo wrong:

“1-3mm starting in the late afternoon” apparently means that the valley trail will be under water by 10am!

Why doesn’t this happen during winter? (they constantly over-predict snow)

Rant over. It’s finally July!

Rocking it all up

This week the trail crew continued upgrading Industrial Waste. We moved literal mountains of duff and black slime off of the trail. The new recruits gathered tons of rocks and sweet orange dirt to properly weather-proof the tread. There’s still more to do though...

The current state of so many trails in town tells me that riders/runners/walkers have been “going for it” despite the inclement weather. I hope folks can show some restraint and give Dark Crystal and Micro Climate a chance to dry. (as requested by the builders!)

If the rain keeps up, consider riding well draining trails such as HighSide>HiHi or Howler. Explore the rocky no-flow zone or put your tires on mostly granite trails like Rockwork Orange, Cable guy and Foreplay

Maybe even consider skipping a ride to finish that quarantine puzzle...

See you on the (hopefully dry) trails!
