Trails Update: July 1, 2022

What’s that buzz?

It’s finally summer! The thermometer certainly escalated quickly and everyone on the crew was taken by surprise. Not by the heat though, we had plenty to drink and shaded worksites. The arrival of summer brought with it the first real aerial assault: mosquitoes! I even resorted to using bug spray… not the pleasant lemongrass essential oil stuff, the nasty stuff that dissolves plastics. Michal sported his bug-net-shirt all week. We all complained.

It’s still Business Time! Now that we’ve repaired water issues, upgraded turns and replaced rotting tread supports, we’re focused on bridge replacements. Three structures were replaced and better aligned with the trail. The “bouncy feature” at the top got swapped as well. With a few more tweaks to go next week, it’s almost time for you to revisit Duncan’s…

Like weeds

Plants are just like most mountain bikers: they love warm, sunny weather. Growth has exploded this week and we’re about to dispatch the trimmers. The usual jungles are pretty spread out along the valley… so we’d love your help! Please report overgrown sections on Trailforks (it’s easy to do, see here). It will help us prioritize our focus. And, just like reporting deadfall, please show us your struggle! Photos are important.

Snow line

Despite the hot weather there’s still snow at 1300m, so if you’re planning Canada Day weekend adventures, don’t forget that the tread of trails surrounded by melting snow is usually saturated with water. Tires, hiking boots and running shoes turn that tread into mud. Please be patient!

See you on the trails!
