Trails Update: June 2, 2022
Business Time turns 10!
I vividly remember the first time I rode Duncan’s (It’s Business Time). It was in the epic Tony Horn event, the Four Kings (2012). Duncan had passed away in an avalanche the previous winter, and his unfinished trail had been completed in memorandum by friends. I resisted the urge to sample the new trail earlier in the summer… saving that first impression for the big race.
I loved it! Such an engaging experience with its sharp technical features and stiff climbs. Similar in style to “Kill Me, Thrill Me” but more down!
After 10 years of tires including some high level racing, it’s time to spruce it up. We’ve started at the bottom and will work up over the next few weeks armouring holes and upgrading worn features.
Beaver Pass Trim and Refresh
BC Hydro’s crew has elevated the sightlines on Upper Beaver Pass for a surreal experience. It is strange to literally see the whole picture as you’re about to drop-in. Further down Benoit, Liam and Josh have been replacing duff traps with impressive granite Tetris boards.
“It’s really nice to work near an infinite source of slowly cooled plutonic igneous rock that is so coarse, it destroys a pair of gloves in a few hours. The fit is tight tho.” – Liam (Trail Builder & Geologist). I’m no geologist but that sounds legit!
Excess Vitamin D
So far this season, we’ve been bundled up in thermals and rain gear. This led me to be in absolute shock under the power lines while tuning up the Whistler Waldorf work on Robin Yer Eggs. Distracted by the orchestral bird calls and critter visits… racoon, coyote, deer… I failed to notice the late spring sun trying to assert some summer rays. My neck and ears will serve as the crew’s reminder that sunblock should be in the pack every day.
See you on the trails!
