Trails Update: Oct 30, 2020

We got over it.

It was “two-thermos” weather out there this week.

My “Ikea” plan for the Get Over It bridge replacements worked. Obviously, when working in a soft environment, you need to improvise a fair bit… The bridge designs changed a little as we removed the old structure and uncovered some good and bad surprises.

Turns out there are a few pieces left in the box when we were done!

The massive boulder was persuaded into a better spot allowing us to bench the trail through the middle section (woodwork adverse riders will appreciate the dirt braking pad between bridges).

The creek crossing’s off-ramp was in worse shape than anticipated. We added some supports to the main structure and had to carefully disassemble each segment in fear of compromising the main span. The new off-ramp is a stand alone structure built around the essential bits of the main crossing stringers.

With some rain and melting snow saturating EVERYTHING in the area, our pacing back and forth between the bridges has made quite a stew (mud) that won’t likely dry out and harden until next spring…

Apologies to all the runners for soiling your bright shoes.

Since we got all of the woodwork done with time to spare, we also repaired some slumping sections and replaced more rotting wood with granite.

See you on the trails!
