Whip it UP!
The dessert platter: Now with more Whipped Cream! My Whistler Adventure School students helped us bypass another section of BC Hydro’s Lower Sproatt road. This past weekend, they learned how to find and prepare cedar to build a sweet curvy bridge. You can now skip the last worst piece of the road on your dessert feast! Construction of this short dollop had some tough building which required plenty of come-along and rock stacking work. Worth a look if you appreciate beautiful stonework. The Crew made short work of finishing the adventure school project so we stayed in the area: sprucing our way up Industrial Waste into the Chipmunk Rebellion.
Fungus among us
Some people love the blooms of spring, while I, for one, prefer the blooms of fall. The forest has turned into a veritable “Where’s Waldo” for those who appreciate toadstools. Like Waldo, if you play often enough, you get better at finding him … or, you may also simply remember where to look. I mostly hunt mushrooms for the images but some of you may be more curious about their taste. I’m not an expert when it comes to playing “Is it edible?” so you should ask the pros for guidance at Fungus among us! The Whistler Naturalists are hosting this annual event and once again, you can participate in a mushroom photography contest… I’ve been practicing!
A River Runs Smoother (upgrades by RMOW)
The RMOW trail crew are currently performing some serious tread upgrades on the trail as well as removing/replacing unsafe structures. Improvements are working their way south from Pass the Sugar. I’m excited about the grippy, freshly ripped cedar skinnies and noticeably smoother trail. I’ll be getting River back into my after work ride rotation now that we’ve passed the fall equinox. This zone is a goldmine for anyone searching for mushrooms too...
See you on the trails!
