Rainbow Fire Thinning Update
The tree cutters' work is done in the section between Rainbow and Emerald estates… so we tackled the work of recovering bits of trail damaged by heavy equipment. When such a drastic change occurs in the forest surrounding a trail, we need to anticipate changes in user behavior.
Without the trees, turns lose their purpose… We had to do some redesigning. We had to completely rebuild the bermy turns at the bottom of upper Anal Intruder - we took the opportunity to modernize the line. You’ll also notice that we had to change the intersection near the bottom of White Knuckles. The descending bits of Creamsicle Rainbow were unrecognizable. There were too few trees and too many Machine tracks that it seemed a whole new trail was required. Without enough time to devote to constructing 400m of trail and anticipating user patterns with this sort of fire-thinned area, we opted for what I call the “Kadenwood Technique”: we dragged logs to force some slalom turns through the wood chips.
“Whoaaa! People are gonna call it the New-Flow zone!” bantered the crew.
No they won’t.
Fire thinning operations around Delineator should be done shortly and work has begun at the bottom of Howler/No View so please obey all signage in that area.
FOX Factory Trail Trust digging morning!
Try to say that three times quickly… We closed out Crankworx with a bang hosting 30 volunteers to work on Flashback 1. The full trail crew joined in on the fun, benching trail and pulling more stumps. It was all business between picking raspberries and speculating over the results of the enduro race taking place in the bike park. The Trail Trust folks came with swag and a FOX 38 fork to give away. There was a funny bonus surprise when Micayla Gatto picked the winner: “Edison Strelau has won the fork!” …We all learned Ed’s full name! I assumed he was an “Edward”.
Great progress was made and the end for this section is in sight! Perhaps a ribbon cutting ceremony might be in the works to kick off the Fall season of Tuesday Dig Nights, which are scheduled to resume after the September long weekend.
See you on the trails!
