Trails Update: July 7, 2023

Trail changes ahead

We returned to Korova Milk Bar this week to continue with upgrades to this precision riding test piece. We armoured some holes, improved transitions and cut some trees that have been severely damaged by handlebars (or fingers!).

I also experienced an “old man yells at cloud” moment when we found a naughty new line…

Here’s an important message to aspiring trail builders or (wannabe) influencers: do not modify/add features to existing trails. Your one-hit-wonder feature may have unforeseen (to you) consequences such as dangerous new intersections or damage to the original trail that will tie-up maintenance resources. End of rant.

There was a skid mark that led to a tree with evidence of a hard impact… lets hope the rider is ok. The new line clearly needed some professional finishing work so we made it more user-friendly.

Kids wanna dig too!

We filled all of our watering cans and let members of the Indigenous Life Sport Academy and WORCA dirt camps have some fun crafting sections of the Flashback trail. Due to our recent hot dry weather, we dug in the morning. While displaying the difference between organic and mineral soil, I was shocked at the dampness of the moss and red rot! All participants worked hard and learned lots about what it takes to build bike trails.

LOTS Update

Lord of the Squirrels is OPEN!!! Please follow the markers through the snow zones and ride within your ability. Use this checklist to be prepared.

See you on the trails!
