WHISTLER ADVENTURE SCHOOL

This spring session of the Sustainable Trail Building course ventured into Flashback to learn about new trail construction and rockwork. This exotic classroom was not distraction free: mosquitoes are out! The duff was deep, but under all that red rot was some prime Cheakamus mineral soil. Roots were armored, berms and jumps were shaped into what will be an exciting last pitch of Flashback!

After a long haul clearing deadfall along Comfortably Numb, the trail crew poked into Salted Caramel. We delivered supplies and started setting up for upcoming bridge construction… which is on the agenda for Week 2 of the class.

TWICE THE FUN!

This week was rife with volunteers as we ran 2 Trail Nights. Our first Women’s Trail Night of the season kicked off the week with steep bench cutting, gabion cage filling and cedar log peeling. Thanks to Cascade Environmental for supporting the event!

Next was Peak Vending hosting the regular Tuesday Trail Night. Fancy rockwork helped keep the trail line on point and our efforts are progressing this project to the next creek!

I think that digging (in the dirt) is the easiest part of these events so I want to extend a special shout out to the BBQ crew for feeding all these diggers week after week: Sarah, Leanne, Hannah and Trails Director Ben! They are surprising us with a variety of flavors and a “weekend get together” vibe that makes us forget it's a school night!

See you on the trails!
