2024, a synopsis in trails
We’re well past Thanksgiving but I now take the opportunity to thank the WORCA trail crew for their passionate efforts this season! We tackled so many challenges and made a difference every day to make our shared network the best it can be. I’m proud of our team’s skills and their enthusiasm to tackle difficult repairs. We spent the spring in Cheakamus renovating the tour de Trash/Trainwreck zone and touching up early (snow) melting trails like Far Out and AM/PM. Oh, and, with massive community support, completed Flashback!
Next, we hit the No Flow Zone for a complete redesign of Up Shit Creek/Creamsicle Rainbow with the support of Whistler Secondary and Whistler Adventure School students. We were all students there too… the entire trail crew got a taste of mini excavator operation as part of our ongoing skills development program! Later, the crew battled rotten features and swarms of wasps in A River Runs Through It. Wider, Lower, Smoother was the assignment but we also added a few Narrower, Higher upgrades too. While in the neighborhood, we also reno/redesigned Danimal North (and South).
Fall was highlighted by long commutes to Wedge, Jane Lakes, Gargamel and Binty’s/Billy’s.
Last week, we ended our season on a crew favourite: Southern Accent.
Braden, Jacob, Vera, Reily, Adam, Nick, Zack, Josh, Michal and Michal: Thank you for your sweat and literal heavy lifting this season!
Our efforts were rewarded with a pleasant treat from the Scandinave Spa, and RMU hosted our season end party! Our work would not be possible without the support of WORCA’s members, sponsors as well as our main partner in trails, the RMOW. Finally, I’d like to give a shout out to Trevor, Nicole, Ben and the rest of the WORCA Board for letting us do what we do!
See you at the Peak Chair!
