Trails Update: Apr 22, 2022

Annnnnnnd we’re back! Sort of…

It seemed like spring was going to cooperate with us for an earlier than usual start for the crew… Winter had other plans though! We’ve worked around snow in the past, but I’ve never had the opportunity to call in the “20cm rule” while working on trails!

So with powder-tired legs, we set off for the 2022 season. The first orders of business: Repairing the damage caused by last Fall’s atmospheric rivers (that we know of so far).

-The Sea-To-Sky trail had entire sections of trail washed away both north and south of town

(the RMOW/SLRD will deal with these issues)

-AM/PM turned into a raging river.

-New waterways appeared all along KMTM.

-New creeks now flow through No View

We first got AM/PM rideable (more work to come) and then built a bridge over one of the newer creeks impeding No View. The roadway ditch crossing will get a culvert installed as soon as possible…

If you see something, say something! On trailforks…

It’s our first week in the field and we’ve already bumped into plenty of familiar characters: Squirrels, Northern Flickers and mosquitoes. Also, Trailforks reporting duo Ben and Barb. Barb posts about conditions and downed trees almost daily. Ben is usually the first to respond with Garbo (the Chief Stick Officer) and his silky saw. As a bonus: Ben shares candy with the trail crew AND reports his cleared trees to Trailforks.

Please report what you find out there. Please include a photo of your bike in front of the problem tree for perspective. This will tell us which saw is needed for the job.

Please report what you clear as well. Saving everyone a sometimes long mission to nowhere (if the tree has already been cleared),

See you on the trails!
