Well that dropped quickly!

The mercury that is. With rain mixed in, the past week felt more like October than August. This gave us the green light to fire up the chainsaws again, so we headed into the depths of “Comfortably Numb” for some bridge replacements. We also armoured and smoothed out sections that had become extra rowdy.

Sweet notches Chris (Markle)!

I’m not a carpenter, so I pay close attention to the original builder’s “assembly” when I need to replace an existing bridge. In some cases, I stick to the techniques I am familiar with and start from scratch: with all new parts. However, “all new parts” was not an option for working on “Comfortably Numb’siconic  50-metre log ride. I took the north-end ramp apart piece by piece, dreading the mess of nails that often riddles an old structure. To my surprise the ramp frame was not fastened to the fallen tree... It simply rested in precise notches! Chris Markle foresaw that the ramp would need replacing before the main stringer (a fallen old growth tree) and designed it for simple non-catastrophic upgrade. I followed suit... for the sake of whoever fixes it in another 15 years.

Tuesday dig night, September 4th!

Come join us to dig on “Yummy Numby”: We’re replacing the road section of the climb with sweet singletrack! The meeting point to get your dig on is the start of “Yummy Numby” at 5:30 pm.  Refreshments and snacks will be provided by libation afficianados Todd (Cascade Environmentaland Tony (Slopeside Supply) so I’m looking forward to top-shelf hops! Please park on Painted cliff road and/or ride in to the “Yummy Numby” trail head.

See you on the trails!
